Resilience
“Resilience” emerged from my struggle with grief and sorrow after the loss of my husband. I was trying to cope with the concept of life without him, of life alone. In my quest for healing, art became a tool to tap into my inner strength and resilience in my effort to recreate a new life.
This charcoal portrait is of a little girl orphaned and alone. Her eyes are offering a glimpse into a life marked by loss and solitude. Her gaze illustrates a fierce determination—a spark that reveals that despite the hardship she has endured, her spirit remains unbroken spirit. Her large, expressive eyes reflect the resilience I sought in myself, a will not just to survive but to thrive.
The background is intentionally abstract, enhancing her presence and urging you to engage with her eyes and her silent strength. It's a space for reflection, encouraging you to connect with her story and perhaps to remind you of your own resilience. As I drew her, I discovered fragments of my courage. “Resilience” is more than a portrait; it’s my tribute to the enduring strength of the human spirit, inspiring you to pause and recognize your own capacity to overcome life’s difficult moments.
